The Hills Run Red & Hank III connection

Ok, so my geeky superfan side is going to rear its quirky little head now – enjoy!

The power of 3… It is true that if you look hard enough you can relate/find any number in nearly anything (like the Jim Carrey movie ’23′). The Angels have a habit of finding the “3″ when we are traveling on the road. For example, without meaning to we end up pulling up to gas pump #3, we point out in delight when we notice that the clock has turned 3:33 or that the Jack Daniel’s distillery is exit 111. We look for photos with subject series of 3s (polls, birds, barns, anything)… you get the drift. So imagine my pleasure in finding a magic 3 interesting coincidences in a horror flick called “The Hills Run Red”. The DVD had a “making of” featurette so I took a look.

#1. The film title – One of my favorite Hank III songs is “Ruby (Get Back to the Hills)” – The film title is The Hills Run Red. Ruby=Red > “Red” get back to the hills >> The Hills Run Red… get it?

#2. Something jumped out at me at the 13:30 minute mark- a “FUCK CANCER” shirt. I knew I had seen this slogan before and then it hit me: Michael “Fiddleboy” McCanless who suffered from cancer. Inspired by Hank III’s FUCK CURB campaign and with help from his loved ones and good friend Hank III, Michael started his own “Fuck Cancer” campaign to help raise money and it was quite a successful effort. Sadly, he passed in 2003. Presently, there are many online outlets for purchasing shirts with the Fuck Cancer slogan so I have no proof that the shirt on the featurette was referencing Fiddleboy but it stood out nonetheless.
